Windshield wipers!

Windshield wipers!

Sale-a-bration might be my favorite time of year… for every $50 order you get to choose a free item from the SAB flyer. We made this card in class with the So Hoppy Together set from Stampin Up. The playful frogs are great for lots of occasions!

This style card is called a”windshield wiper” card because when you pull on the ends, a little surprise card swishes up. It still folds flat to fit inside of our regular envelopes though, and no extra postage required.

Speaking of windshield wipers, we’ve been using them a lot around here lately. We had mounds of snow, then lots of rain, and now…you guessed it-flooding! I have water coming under the door into my stamping room but that’s not much to complain about compared to our neighbors who can’t even get in or out of their driveway. Hopefully the frost leaves the ground soon and it all soaks away.

Have a great day, spring is right around the corner… can’t wait!

“Cool”postage

“Cool”postage

I stopped in at our post office today to get stamps… aren’t these COOL?! And you’ll never believe it – they are scratch and sniff! I can’t wait to send some fun mail using these. If I could make my own scratch and sniff stamps I think I would pick coffee scent. What would you pick?

I can do hard things

I can do hard things

Are you a procrastinator like me? I use the excuse that I’m better under pressure, which sometimes works… but not always. One of the things I’ve put off is – you guessed it… blogging!

I’ve challenged myself to blog more, and here’s my first post in a while. I made this card for a swap and when I do swaps I’m always trying to make sure I have enough of the same paper so they all match. An easy way to make designer series paper stretch is to cut it at 4×4. For this card I sliced 1/4″ off each end then cut at a diagonal through the middle. The thin strip makes it look like there is another layer but it’s just the back side of the floral paper.

I love these pretty colors together, and the greeting on the front serves as a reminder for me to do those hard things I’ve been putting off.

Have a fantastic day!

Handmade by Amelia

Handmade by Amelia

There’s nothing like getting a handmade card, especially when you can see how much love and care went into making it!

I got this gorgeous card from my young friend Amelia. She stamps with me every now and then but she made this one on her own and it was a nice surprise to receive it.

Creating with kids takes some patience but worth every second and the rewards come back to practically make your heart burst! Thanks Amelia!

Shirley’s Summer Slush

Shirley’s Summer Slush

Last year my handy hubby Brian made a great frame for me and my crafty friends. He used weathered wood and a metal backing that he sprayed with chalkboard paint so we can use magnets or chalk on it. Each season we make an insert for it. Here’s the latest one we made, which is for summer.

I totally want to go there now! We used the Seasonal Layers thinlets dies, and those Adirondack chairs are calling my name. The drink sitting on the table looks inviting too. It reminds me of the brandy slush my aunt Shirley makes, yum. Everything she makes is delicious! Here’s her famous recipe, in her own handwriting. 💙

I may have spilled some tea on the recipe card while making this, but I think you can read it all. Enjoy!

Got scraps?

Got scraps?

Gosh if you’re a paper crafter and you don’t have scraps I’d love to hear your secret. I have a drawer full of scraps and it was overflowing before I decided to try this fun herringbone technique. I used strips of paper that were 1/2 x 6″, 5 different patterns, 2 of each piece. Then adhere in a pattern to achieve this design, pretty simply really!

We made this in class and no 2 cards turned out the same. It was very relaxing to put together, and I have found a solution to use up some of my many scraps, hooray!
